THE NEUST SITUATION

 University is a place where you can continue your education after secondary school. University is very important for those who want to get a degree and when they graduate they can get the job they dream of.

Just like the university I stayed at for my exchange, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, or NEUST for short. NEUST is a state or public university. And NEUST also has a junior and senior high school beside the campus. NEUST has several campuses, I don't know exactly how many campuses, but they have more than 4 campuses. NEUST has many faculties and it is easy for high school graduates to choose the faculties they want. The faculties of NEUST are as follows:

1. college of agriculture

2. college of architecture

3. college of arts and science

4. college of criminology

5. college of education

6. college of engineering

7. college of industrial technology

8. college of management business technologi

9. college of nursing

10. college of public admistrasion disaster management.

Based on what I experienced, NEUST is similar to the Indonesian high school system. They have an annual event for all students and what I saw in one month they have many activities outside of learning. Another similarity with the high school system is that once a week they have a day where all students clean the campus. The most interesting fact in the Philippines whether on campus or off campus I found it difficult to find rubbish bins but it has a very clean condition. Unlike Indonesia, where it is very easy to find waste bins but there is still a lot of rubbish scattered around. Then in the association of students here there is no SENIORITY or bullying of students they are all good from junior to senior or senior to junior they are always united and they are friendly. This is inversely proportional to the situation in Indonesia. Until now in schools and outside schools in Indonesia there is still bullying against someone and the positive value is that people in Indonesia are aware of bullying so the level of bullying in Indonesia is already small.

In the Philippines, there are several curriculum that can be used, while the curriculum used by NEUST is the MAPEH and MATATAG curriculum. MAPEH is a curriculum that emphasises music, art, physical education and health. MAPEH is used in the 10th grade of NEUST. MATATAG is a new curriculum created by the Department of Education or DepEd. DepEd created this curriculum to :

1. MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens;

2. TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services;

3.TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and

4. Give support to teachers to teach better.

In short, the Department has specific directions that include curriculum improvement with a focus on basic skills and peace competencies, improvement of education infrastructure, strengthening inclusive education, additional support for teachers, and professional development. The MATATAG agenda aims to improve access, equity, resilience.

So that's a bit of the situation in NEUST and a bit of a comparison with Indonesia.
